Our program is off to a GREAT start!
This morning we had a productive orientation in one of San Jose’s many parks. We talked through the itinerary of adventures that await us, and prepared for our month of community service in the village of Biolley.
We had our first introduction to Costa Rican cuisine: casados (rice, beans, fried plantains, salad, and a protein of our choice) and delicious tropical juices like Kas and Guanabana.
Fortunately for us, San Jose is currently hosting a weeklong art festival, featuring traditional musicians, actors, and artists. We caught a performance of a full set orchestra playing Santana, and other international hits. We also saw a pasacalle (a parade) with some amazing costumes and bought some handcrafted gifts.
And finally, we took a dance class! Our awesome teacher, Yira, broke the ice and changed our two left feet into functional salsa steps! Below is a video that Nick took of us practicing. Stay tuned for more!
